Music

At Rye Primary School our students are involved in weekly lessons in the Performing Arts. We have a Music Room equipped with piano keyboards, djembe drums and classroom percussion, puppets, ukuleles, digital technologies and a large space to move and dance.

Students in Prep begin to explore the fundamental elements of music including beat and rhythm, pitch and melody, tone, dynamics, form and texture. Students learn songs and dances, play group games and activities that foster team work, self-confidence and creativity. Older students are taught ukulele and beginner keyboard as well as reading graphic scores and traditional musical notation. Students learn to work together as part of an ensemble in music, dance and drama.

During Music classes, students are encouraged to actively listen to and appreciate music. They talk about different cultures and discuss their own feelings, emotions and connection to the Arts.

Our school has a Junior School and Senior School Choir who regularly participate in community events. Our School Band is for students who are part of our instrumental music program offered at the school with lessons from private tutors in woodwind, brass, percussion and guitar.

At Rye we nurture students to be enthusiastic learners who are actively involved in their education. Our Year Six students are given leadership opportunities to help to facilitate whole-school events in the Arts and this is seen in concerts, performances, lunchtime clubs, student expos and our whole-school production. Student participation and innovation is celebrated at Rye Primary School and we are proud to cater for different learners and provide a diverse range of interests in the Arts.
